Figuring out Ser and Estar
Learning how to distinguish when to use each of the two Spanish verbs meaning "to be" can be tricky. It's a struggle for many English speakers learning Spanish to make the distinction between "ser" and "estar" and they often make the mistake of using them interchangeably. When looking for ideas on how to teach ser and estar, I stumbled upon this hilarious, student-made rap video about it.
My students loved it and chapters later they still beg me to watch it. The chorus is catchy and I still catch my students humming it. They loved the video, learned how to distinguish between ser and estar and were inspired to create their own videos. The ser and estar rap is a sequel to a previous lesson/rap put out by "Papa Juan" and "FabuLoso." These two student rappers also have raps for teaching por vs. para and preterite vs. imperfect. ¡Disfrútenlos!
